Server, Application, and Desktop Virtualization

Virtualization no longer applies exclusively to servers and hardware consolidation. Client, server, storage, and application virtualization can create a dynamic, business-enabling IT foundation that will make you re-think how you plan, build, and run your infrastructure. Virtualization now runs the gamut from Desktop to Datacenter.

Virtualization provides multiple benefits to an organization looking to reduce physical server footprint, reduce power and cooling costs, quickly provision new servers as needed, maximize availability, quickly deliver applications in an isolated desktop, and reducing regression testing and compatibility issues.

Along with these benefits come challenges that require proper planning and management of the virtual environment.

Statera Virtualization services include:

  • Current State Assessment and Roadmap to Virtualization
    • Provide an assessment of current IT environment with a focus on how virtualization can be used to optimize the IT infrastructure.
    • Workload assessment to indentify which applications and workloads can be virtualized
    • Storage Assessment to understand current storage strategies and practices, and backup and recovery methods
    • Current processes that may need modification to accommodate licensing management practices, change control and configuration management
    • Management tools and practices
    • Phased approach to move to the virtualized IT environment
    • Rough order of magnitude (ROM) costs for phased implementation of recommendations
  • Virtualization Design and Deployment Services
    • Design and implementation of VM solutions for Microsoft Hyper-V, VMWare ESX and 3i, and Citrix XenApp
    • Storage, recovery, and management for virtual environments
    • Physical to Virtual (P2V), Virtual to Physical (V2P) migrations
  • Application virtualization design and deployment
    • Design and implementation of application virtualization products such as Microsoft App-V (formerly SoftGrid) and Citrix XenDesktop
    • Design and implementation of Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) to gain the benefits of application virtualization within the Configuration Manager 2007 management infrastructure
  • DR Planning and Deployment Services
    • Comprehensive DR planning and analysis to ensure IT system availability in the event of a disaster or prolonged outage. This includes such DR planning activities as Business Impact Assessments, Risk Analysis, alternate site selection, and cost analysis.
    • Design and implementation of virtualization, storage, replication tools, or WAN optimization to ensure system availability in a disaster scenario and achieve RTOs and RPOs.
