About the Fastest-Growing Private Company Awards:
Each company had to report a minimum of nine months of operations in the base year of 2005. Nearly 300 companies responded to the survey. They arrived to the categories by taking into consideration the reported revenues of all the companies that shared data with them and grouped them to achieve the maximum amount of competition among like-sized companies. This year's list ranks private companies in five flights, based on total revenue:

  • Flight 5 covers companies with annual revenues less than $3 million
  • Flight 4, annual revenues between $3 million and $7 million
  • Flight 3, annual revenues between $7 million and $19 million
  • Flight 2, between $19 and $46 million
  • And finally, Flight 1, the largest private companies, with revenues in excess of $46 million
